Table-Top Gaming Goes High Tech - Second Semester

This is an idea that has potential. SurfaceScapes has created a "proof-of-concept" for playing tabletop role-playing games on the Microsoft Surface Table.

While they are using Dungeons and Dragons as a basis for the prototype, the option for future expansions for other role-playing games exists. Count us in!

SurfaceScapes will provide Game Masters and players with the ability to interact with the digital environment using real objects such as miniatures and provide automated calculations and visual and audio feedback for actions performed by the player and non-player characters.

March 5th, 2010 - It took the Burntwire Brothers two years to build the ultimate gaming room. "I did 99.9% of the work myself with just a bit of help in the attic from my brother Shawn. All lighting is controlled by the DM via a dimmer/control box mounted under the table. When you walk in the lights automatically come on via a contactor mounted in the closet. There is also hidden strobe and fog machine for effects. I also mounted speakers in the beams and have a sound system in the closet." NBC Cancels HEROES

May 14, 2010 - Hollywood Reporter announced that NBC has cancelled "Heroes." According to the magazine, the network seriously mulled bringing back "Heroes" for a shortened final season to wrap up the serialized show. In the end, given the fairly high cost of the drama, the show's consistently declining ratings and the number of new hour-longs coming to NBC next season, the network decided the UMS-produced series wasn't worth an additional season. Sources say the network is still leaving the door open to conclude the show with a special or movie.

Gamers unite. Write NBC. Sign a petition. Do whatever it takes to save this show. We realize that you may not have watched it in awhile, but when a show like Heroes is cancelled, it sends a message to the studio execs that this kind of programming is not what you are interested in. June 20th, 2010 - In case you haven't heard, the dice design masters at Q Workshop are now offering custom dice. Now you can impress your friends with dice that you have designed. According to the site, you can order "a die created just for you! And don’t worry, as it will be as quick and simple as it can be. Everyone can conceive their own dice and have them made by Q-workshop. To create a project you need neither sophisticated and expensive applications nor supernatural talents. You just need to use your imagination."
